Consuming its capital
This archetype sits below the median on all four income relationships. The trade-off framework applies less cleanly here because there is no dominant ongoing funding relationship generating the tensions the framework describes. These organisations are sustaining themselves through some combination of asset disposals and extraordinary financial arrangements that convert accumulated capital into current revenue. The strategic consequence may be operation without renewal. Every other archetype tends to have at least one mechanism through which income renews. Where that mechanism is reduced in relative terms, the strategic question is likely less about managing funding trade-offs and more about whether a sustainable income relationship can be built before current arrangements are exhausted.
