This archetype likely has greater financial independence and deeper market exposure which tends to produce ongoing relevance without requiring supporter or state approval. The cost is that greater isolation from donor sentiment and public credibility may mean the organisation may risk detachment from public opinion, in spite of continued demand for what it provides. The strategic consequence may be that it pursues long-term purposes without external interference and sustains itself through earned activity, but answers primarily to itself and its customers and may risk losing sight of whether its purposes still serve the needs that originally justified them.
